One of the most amazing facts of this presidential season is the tremendous love and support that Bernie Sanders receives from young people. The numbers are in and people under the age of 35 support the Vermont Senator with a passion and zeal very rarely seen in politics.
President Obama was popular with young people but he was also very young, Bernie Sanders is almost 80, and his support with the youth reaches rock star levels. A poll from Institute of Politics (IOP) at Harvard Kennedy School found that 18- to 29- year-olds support Bernie Sander massively at 32%, no other candidate even comes close.
NBC/ Wall Street Journal found that young people support Bernie Sanders by over 35% and there was no other candidate that came within 10 points of Sanders. As of today more than 15 different National polls of young people show Sanders beating every other Democratic candidate for President.
What is the appeal? Why do young people “Feel the Bern” for Sanders?
The fact of the matter is they believe him.
Young people today can detect fake a mile away, they have no time for fake, sadly many of today’s youth have grown up way too fast. Often they have seen too much too early.
Bernie’s message is simple, and clearly believable: Why spend more on war than helping the poor? This is common sense which resonates with people.
Why bail out banks but never give a bail out to those swimming in student loan debt?
Why not help the working poor, instead of giving billions of dollars to put weapons in space?
Other politicians have tried to copy Bernie but it does not work, they copy Bernie but it rings “fake” to young people.
Young people love Bernie Sanders because he is simply real in a political world where fake often rules the day.
